PRIMARY CARE
This summer, three students participated in the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Summer Experience Program in Primary Care at the Maui Lani Medical Office. Over the course of the program, students rotated through four departments including Internal Medicine, Urgent Care, Pediatrics, and Family Medicine, gaining firsthand exposure to the daily operations of a primary care clinic.

They had the opportunity to shadow physicians, physician assistants, and registered nurses during real patient visits, observing everything from routine checkups and chronic disease management to urgent care evaluations and wound care. Students also participated in weekly didactic sessions where they learned about various medical specializations alongside peers from the radiology program. Through this experience, they developed a deeper understanding of how interdisciplinary teams work together to deliver patient-centered care, and many left with a clearer sense of their own goals and interests within the healthcare field.
