INTERNAL MEDICINE

During the Internal Medicine portion of the program, students developed a deeper understanding of how physicians manage chronic health conditions and provide comprehensive care for adult patients. They learned that managing chronic diseases involves more than prescribing medication, requiring physicians to monitor patients over time, provide education on healthy lifestyle choices, and adjust treatment plans based on each patient’s individual needs.
Students also gained insight into the importance of whole-person care by observing how factors such as family support, mental health, daily habits, and access to resources can influence a patient’s overall health. In addition, students developed a greater appreciation for culturally responsive and community-centered healthcare by seeing the importance of understanding a patient’s background, values, and unique needs. This experience highlighted the importance of compassion, active listening, and building trust with patients while showing students how healthcare professionals can make a meaningful difference in both individual lives and the communities they serve.
