PEDIATRICS

During the pediatrics portion of the program, students developed a strong understanding of the importance of accurate measurements, proper specimen handling, and patient care when working with children. They learned how to properly measure a child’s head circumference by using a non-stretchable tape measure, taking multiple measurements, and comparing the results to age- and sex-specific growth charts.

Students also learned the importance of correctly labeling patient specimens, including verifying patient information, wearing appropriate protective equipment, and labeling samples immediately after collection to prevent errors or delays in care. In addition, students became familiar with different types of wound dressings, including gauze, hydrocolloids, hydrogels, alginates, and transparent films, and learned how each dressing is selected based on the needs of the wound. This experience emphasized the importance of accuracy, safety, and attention to detail in pediatric healthcare while providing students with a better understanding of how proper clinical techniques can support a child’s health and recovery.
