CAT SCAN

During the CT (Computed Tomography) portion of the program, students learned the importance of preparation, attention to detail, and patient-centered care. A major focus was reviewing prior imaging studies and patient history before each scan. This allowed for more accurate positioning, consistency between exams, and better detection of changes over time—especially in cases like cancer, where small differences matter. Students also learned to spot key details in patient records, such as allergies to contrast media or kidney concerns, which are essential for safe and effective imaging.

Students became familiar with both oral and intravenous (IV) contrast and their roles in enhancing image clarity for specific organs and conditions. They helped prepare the contrast injector machine by setting up tubing and checking for air bubbles, gaining hands-on experience with equipment and workflow. The program also highlighted the importance of teamwork, as students observed how CT technologists, nurses, and schedulers work together to keep the day running smoothly. From managing appointments to assisting with IV placement, every role plays a part in ensuring safe, timely, and high-quality patient care.
